7,329,492, "Methods for Real-time Single Molecule
Sequence Determination," European and Australian
counterparts have also recently issued. VisiGen's

Applied Biosystems Completes Equity Investment in VisiGen
Biotechnologies
FOSTER CITY, CA and HOUSTON, TX — December 8, 2005 — Applied Biosystems Group
(NYSE:ABI), an Applera Corporation business, announced today that it has
completed its previously announced equity investment in privately held VisiGen
Biotechnologies, a next-generation sequencing technology company. Concurrent
with its investment, Applied Biosystems also entered into a scientific
collaboration agreement with VisiGen. Financial terms of the transactions were
not disclosed.
The VisiGen investment is part of Applied Biosystems’ strategy of maintaining
its leadership position in DNA sequencing by complementing its internal
investments in new and existing sequencing technologies with promising

Applied Biosystems to Invest in VisiGen Biotechnologies
FOSTER CITY, Calif. & HOUSTON—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Oct. 26, 2005—Applied
Biosystems Group (NYSE:ABI - News), an Applera Corporation business, and VisiGen
Biotechnologies, Inc., announced today that Applied Biosystems has signed a
definitive agreement to make an equity investment in privately held VisiGen, a
next-generation sequencing technology company, and to enter into a scientific
collaboration agreement with VisiGen concurrent with the closing of the
investment. The investment and the collaboration are subject to closing
conditions specified in the investment agreement, including VisiGen’s receipt of
an additional investment from SeqWright, Inc., an existing VisiGen shareholder,
and other conditions that are customary for a transaction of this type. The
companies expect that Applied Biosystems’ investment will be made and the
collaboration commenced by calendar year end. Financial terms of the

VisiGen Awarded NIH SBIR for Biomolecule Labeling Method

of a Phase 1 SBIR grant from the National Institute of Health, National
Institute of General Medical Sciences, to develop a novel method for labeling
DNA, RNA and proteins. This method may be used to directly label RNA for
microarray experiments at a fraction of the cost of current labeling

This group is developing a sequencing system in which polymerase (an enzyme
used to synthesize DNA molecules) and nucleotides act together as direct
molecular sensors of DNA base identity. The key to the system is the interaction
between a fluorescent polymerase and the nucleotide, which emits a signature

VisiGen Enters into Strategic Partnership with SeqWright
